Ingredients

Potato  -  3 medium sized

Oil – 1 tbsp

Mustard seeds – ½ tsp

Hing – 1 pinch

Channal dal – 1 tsp

Turmeric – ½ tsp

Sambhar powder- 1 ½ tsp

Salt to taste

Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp chopped

Method.

Wash potatoes and cut into three pieces.Fill in bottom of pressure cookware with water and add potatoes. I used steam basket to steam cook potatoes.Cover the lid and pressure cook for three whistles. Once it cooled down, transfer potatoes into separate plate. Peel off skin.

You could either use your hands to mash or knife to cut into small pieces. My mom usually use her hands to mash them into small pieces. So I also did the same way.  Make sure you are not mash them completely.. It should be small pieces.Place kadai or pan on your stove.

Add oil, once it is hot, mustard seeds. Then hing and channa dal. Once channa dal has become light brown, turn of the stove .Add turmeric, sambhar powder and salt into the oil. Since we are adding masala powders directly into hot oil, it will burn quickly.

So its good idea to turn off the heat and proceed with adding masala powders. The heat in oil is enough to cook sambar powder. Keep mixing the masala powder till u get nice aroma just for 15-20 seconds.

It wont take more time then that. Now switch on the flame,  Add mashed potato pieces into it. Give a mix to ensure masala powder is coated well with potatoes. Now add curry leaves . cover it with lid and cook for 5-7 minutes.
