Onion Bonda


Onion Bonda , Hot and crispy Indian snack made with gram flour, onion and curry leaves and are excellent to make during rainy or winter season along with Indian tea. I have already posted Masala tea recipe in my blog do check it out if you are interested ! This masala tea with onion bonda must be favorite for every Indian J .


I always remember my brothers especially while making this bonda because my elder brother  never forget to buy bonda  with kara chutney [ spicy chutney] from street side shops if it is raining whereas my younger bro always ask me and my Mom to prepare onion bonda at home.  Thats’ sweet memory when think about my home while  I am more than thousand kilometers away from them .

Ingredients

To sieve

Gram flour – ¾ cup
Rice flour – 2 tbsp
Hing or asafetida – ¼ tsp
Garam masala – ½ tsp
 Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Baking soda – ¼ tsp
Salt – To taste

Other Ingredients

Oil – ½ tsp
Onion – ¼ cup or 1 big size chopped
Curry leaves – 3 sprig chopped
Coriander leaves – 3 tbsp chopped
Red chilli – 3 chopped.
Water – ¼ + 1 tbsp
Oil  for deep frying.

தேவையான பொருட்கள்

To sieve

கடலை மாவு - ¾ கப்
அரிசி மாவு - 2 தேக்கரண்டி
பெருங்காயம் - ¼ தேக்கரண்டி
கரம் மசாலா - ½ தேக்கரண்டி
  மிளகாய் தூள் - 1 தேக்கரண்டி
சமையல் சோடா - ¼ தேக்கரண்டி
உப்பு - தேவையான

Other Ingredients

எண்ணெய் - ½ தேக்கரண்டி
வெங்காயம் - ¼ கப் அல்லது 1 பெரிய அளவு
கறிவேப்பிலை 3 kothu
கொத்தமல்லி தலை -  3 TBSP
மிளகாய், - 3
எண்ணெய் - தேவையான அளவு

Method

Sieve all dry ingredients listed under ‘to sieve’ in a mixing bowl.
Now add ½ tsp oil and mix oil well with dry ingredients.


Add onion, coriander leaves, curry leaves , red chilli along with ¼ cup + 1 tbsp water and make into medium consistency batter.
Heat oil in kadai for deep frying. Oil should be at medium hot.
Test salt, spicyness and crispyness of the bonda by frying only one first and if every thing is ok proceed with frying rest of the batter.
Remember to flip the bonda inbetween to ensure even cooking with nice golden brown colour.
Transfer into paper towel to absorb excess oil and serve it hot with your favorite chutney or sauce.
