Palak Dal [ Spinach Dal]

Palak dal or Spinach dal is well known and very healthy recipe Prepared in different style all over India. Here  is my recipe to make Palak dal without using any masala powders. Fresh ingredients always rock. Try this recipe and you will love it.

Ingredients:

Oil - 1 tsbp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Onion - 1 chopped
Curry leaves - 1 spring
Garlic - 5 pods
Cumin seeds - 1 1/2 tsp
Pepper - 1/2 tsp
Green chilli - 1
Tomato - 1 chopped
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Spinach - 1 cup 
Toor dal - 1/2 cup
Salt to taste


Method

Place pan on your stove, add 1 lite waterand 1 tsp salt, bring it to boiling point.
Add the spinach leaves and switch off the flame. Let the spinach leaves to sit in hot water for 1 minutes. 
Strain the leaves from water and chop them finely.




Wash toor dal, soak for 15 minutes and pressure cook for 3 visels along with little bit salt and turmeric powder . Using wooden masher mash the dal well and keep it aside.

Grind garlic, cumin seeds and pepper corns and keep it aside.

Place pan on your stove, add oil. wait till it is hot.

Add mustard seeds, allow it to splutter.

Add green chilli, curry leaves and onion along with garlic cumin seeds paste.

Mix all ingredients well combined and fry for 2 minutes till raw flavour goes away.

Make sure to keep the flame medium to avoid burning.

Once it is done, add tomato and turmeric. Cover it with lid and cook for 1 minutes till tomatoes are  mushy and cooked well.

Add chopped spinach leaves, mix well and cook till raw flavour goes.You could add salt at this point of time.

























Once the spinach leaves are done add cooked and mashed dal, mix them well.

Add 1/4 cup water and allow it to cook for 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes, your Delicious palak dal is ready. Serve it with hot rice or roti, chapati.
